The Problem

Many makeup brands rely on neutral, minimalist packaging that can feel intimidating and exclusionary. Shoppers are often overwhelmed by options that fail to reflect real skin diversity or guide beginners confidently.

The Process

I researched inclusive beauty brands and developed a playful visual language centered on illustrated figures, bold color palettes, and curated kits. Prototyping involved dieline exploration, physical mockups, and integrating AI-generated illustrations refined in Adobe Illustrator.

The Solution

The final system features thoughtfully curated makeup kits designed around specific skin tones, paired with expressive illustrations and warm, colorful packaging. The mailer box and individual product packaging work together to create an unboxing experience that feels welcoming, personal, and celebratory.

Reflection

This project strengthened my understanding of designing for both form and function in physical packaging. With more time, I would expand Kinsense into a full series of kits for additional undertones and skin ranges to further reinforce its inclusive mission.
